- You are bidding on 4 oz of carded roving that is 100% huacaya alpaca from our farm herd. It has been scoured and carded at the Wooly Knob Mill. This fleece is a rich Medium Brown. There is a little bit of VM in this fleece, but most seems to drop out during spinning. Some bits of hay do need to be picked out. It is a blanket fleece and one of softest in the shop. Because it is 100% alpaca, it may be a challenge for a beginning spinner. However, I know of many alpaca breeders who have learned to spin alpaca before moving on to other fibers. Alpaca does not have as many "barbs" on each fiber to hold it together the way that wool does. But even my husband, a beginning spinner, can spin this lovely roving.
